You Are Invited to Our Celebrations
From Halaleh Taheri, Founder & Executive Director of MEWSo
2020 is a truly bizarre year! Covid 19 has unsettled the world and lots of us are feeling anxious, stressed, angry, frightened and lonely.
However, 2020 is also the year that MEWSo marks its 10th anniversary, and we would love it if you would come to our LIVE broadcast on Facebook and YouTube and help us celebrate the positives (see the poster below).
There will be lots of music, singers singing in different languages, an exhibition of artwork and special guest speakers. You will be able to take part too, sharing your thoughts, your stories and your experiences during the live event.
I founded MEWSo in 2010 to help BAME women across London who felt isolated and excluded by their communities and society at large. The idea was to help them adjust and rebuild their lives now that London, for a variety of reasons, had become their home. That continues to be the case today and due to the pandemic the situation has gotten worse.
However, within days of lockdown, we moved all our advice and befriending services and our activities online and created WhatsApp groups. Most importantly, we made sure to bring our clients and supporters along with us, and we are pushing ahead to provide even more befriending services, online activities and workshops as we grow.
In spite of these turbulent times, we have a lot to celebrate. We are proud of our partnerships, of our success stories, of all the dedication, support, fun and humour we offer our clients; and we are thankful to still be here, serving the community 10 years later.
Though we can’t gather to celebrate in the usual way, we hope you can take part in this LIVE event with us, which we plan to record and post on YouTube at a later date for everyone to enjoy.
The event takes place on Friday 10 July from 3-6pm. Please, put it in your diary and feel free to pop in and out of the celebrations at your own convenience. We’d really love to see you there.
