Wanted: Trustees

We are a community-led voluntary organisation committed to improving the lives of BAME women across London, in particular, but not exclusively, the lives of migrant women. We provide advice on domestic abuse & violence, on welfare and on LGBTQ+ issues, and run wellbeing activities to about 500 women a year. Our campaigns aim to raise awareness about a variety of issues and our Executive Director is regularly invited to speak at conferences and to various media outlets.

Our Board of Trustees

Currently, we have an all-women Board of seven Trustees who are responsible for setting up the overall strategic directions of MEWSo, and supporting our Executive Director and members of staff. We are looking to diversify our Board and recruit passionate women from all walks of life who can share their expertise in any of the following areas:

  • finance

  • legal

  • HR

  • quality standards

  • digital marketing

  • project management

  • business development

  • campaigning

  • community engagement

  • fundraising

Board members are expected to contribute to the development and growth of MEWSo by:

  • preparing for and attending two-hour board meetings four times a year (currently online)

  • advising on areas of expertise OR being assigned a portfolio of tasks in accordance with their professional background

  • approving MEWSo’s annual accounts

  • occasionally attending networking events (currently online)

  • occasionally attending MEWSo’s classes and workshops to observe and provide recommendations (currently online)

  • liaising with funders

  • and/or reviewing our policies and procedures

We particularly want to encourage applications from women who:

  • have lived experience in one or more of the issues we support

  • have experience working with minority communities or have a minority background themselves

  • are current or former MEWSo service users

  • or are residents or familiar with the voluntary sectors in Islington and/or Westminster

If you know you can make a contribution and want to give something back to the community

then think about becoming a trustee on our Board.

Your ideas and passion can make all the difference to our organisation and our clients.

Thank you
