The majority of the communities we serve are from Middle Eastern, North African, and Asian backgrounds. Our mission is to defend and protect women from violence both at home and in the wider community, help them rebuild their lives through tailored advice, guidance, and support, and campaign for their equality and human rights to be respected.

Position Overview:

MEWSo is looking for a committed and experienced Domestic Abuse Advisor to support women from migrant, refugee, and ethnic minority backgrounds who are impacted by domestic abuse.

This is a position for an advisor who can bring both a 'lived experience' and a deep professional understanding of the community they serve. The successful candidate will join a small, dedicated team working to offer culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and rights-based support to women navigating abuse, exclusion, and systemic barriers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide direct advice, safety planning and support to women experiencing domestic abuse

  • Advocate for women navigating complex issues including No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF), housing, and legal challenges

  • Work closely with local authorities, legal services, and housing teams

  • Maintain accurate case records and contribute to reports and impact evaluation

  • Support outreach and community education activities

Essential Criteria:

  • Formal qualification/certificate in domestic abuse support (e.g., IDVA or equivalent)

  • At least 2 years’ experience in supporting women affected by domestic abuse

  • A deep understanding of the experiences of migrant and refugee women, including barriers related to immigration status, language, and cultural pressures

  • Knowledge of NRPF policy and its implications for survivors

  • Strong engagement skills with Middle Eastern and/or South Asian communities

  • The ability to work confidentially and uphold safeguarding best practice

  • Excellent communication, organisational, and teamwork skills

  • Speaks Arabic

Desirable:

  • Experience in multi-agency working or working within partnership settings

  • An understanding of trauma-informed approaches
