STOP THE WAR

I call on all women's organisations, human rights groups, and freedom-loving communities to join us alongside Amnesty International and the SWIW Committee (Solidarity With Workers in Iran) to oppose this regressive war on Iran. Let us stand together in solidarity for peace and justice for the people of Iran.

Halaleh Taheri, centre.

Today we have learned that the largest gas platform in Iran, aside from the hundreds of other oil and electricity fabric in the south of the country, has been heavily bombed by American forces. This poses a very serious risk that the ongoing war will become even more devastating for the people.

Many workers have been killed. As you know, the first day of the war began with the killing of 168 children in a girls' school in Tehran. More than 5 million people are now homeless, and hundreds of thousands of homes have been destroyed by US and Israel forces. 1,000 innocent people have been killed. As the war continues workers and defenceless people are being killed in the streets in their homes.

This is a critical moment for teh world to recognise how regressive this war is. It must end as soon as possible, because it is only innocent people, women and children who are losing their lives. The war brings no benefit to the people, it is only they who are being sacrificed.

Once again, I remind you that the most Iranians do not want the Islamic Republic. They want to overthrow it themselves. They began the struggle 47 years ago and are determined to see it through. This war of superpowers is not the people's war for achieving freedom and equality. It will not overthrow the regime, instead it is a struggle between powers pursuing their own interests, not the interests of the people, nor for democracy. The continuation of this war weakens the ongoing struggle of the people and prevents them taking to the streets and organising effectively against the regime, and ultimately undermines their fight for change.

Therefore, I call on all of you freedom-loving individuals in Britain to stand with us, march with us and demonstrate against this war to demand its immediate end. We do not want any more bloodshed. Let the people of Iran continue to resist to bring down this dictatorship themselves and achieve victory.
