Jan, 2022 - Harmful Practices Online Seminar for Professionals

If you're a professional working with women and girls from Middle Eastern, North African and Asian communities, join MEWSo’s FREE, online seminar on VAWG training on Tuesday 25 January at 10-11.30am

With no scientific way to prove virginity, private clinics across the UK still carry out such tests and hymen repair surgeries, which are extremely harmful to the physical and mental wellbeing of women and girls. After much campaigning, the Government has agreed to ban both practices but until that actually becomes law, women and girls are still very much at risk.

Now, you can join our seminar to learn how to recognise when women and girls are being forced to accept such VAWG practices and how best to support them.

Nov, 2021 - Safety Before Status

This report is the culmination of MEWSo, and other interested organisations, attending the Domestic Abuse Commissioner workshops. Our aim was to fight for the recognition of migrant women, who have been excluded from the Domestic Abuse Bill, to ensure they are better protected from abuse and violence in the future.

The MEWSo Arts Festival will be on

Friday 12 November

from 2pm to 6pm at the

Kurdish Community Centre, 11 Portland Gardens, N4 1HU

With special thanks to the Kurdish Women's Initiative in the UK, who are kindly hosting the event, there will be arts and crafts created by migrant and refugee women, music and dance, children's face-painting, networking and speeches and lots of tasty Middle Eastern food.

The Festival is in support of the women and girls of Afghanistan who are now barred from the workplace and schools; and we will also focus on MEWSo campaigns against the Government's new Nationality and Borders Bill and its Domestic Abuse Bill, both of which discriminate against migrant women.
