Volunteer With MEWSo Today

No matter where you come from or what you do, your contribution is vital to us!

MEWSo volunteers come from all walks of life, bringing with them different perspectives, backgrounds and skills, as well as passion and commitment to support our mission.

By joining MEWSo as a volunteer, you will gain experience in the charity sector and improve your skills and your employability by being part of a highly motivated, friendly and professional team. You will meet new people and receive ongoing support and supervision from the staff, as well as have different learning and development opportunities available to you so you can enhance your skills and knowledge.

We have partnered with national recognition schemes such as Tempo Time Credits so that you earn Time Credits for each hour you put into volunteering. These credits can be spent on a variety of fun activities and training workshops.

But most importantly, you will make a positive difference to vulnerable women from black, brown, ethnic minority, and refugee communities by helping to empower them to rebuild their lives.

We are keen to make your volunteering experience with us enjoyable, rewarding, flexible and impactful. So, what are you waiting for? Get involved.

For more information about volunteering with us or if you have specific questions about it, don’t hesitate to get in touch. Email Loris, our Volunteers Engagement & Programme Manager, at We will endeavour to reply within five working days.

Kurdish-Speaking Volunteer

The Middle Eastern Women and Society Organisation (MEWSo) is organising a new social group for Feyli women to reduce their isolation and create a safe space for them to share their experiences.

We are looking for a Kurdish-Speaking woman, ideally from Kuwait, who can volunteer between 5-6 hours per month. The volunteer will help the Community Outreach Officer with outreach work around the Church Street area of the London Borough of Westminster and lend support in organising this social group.

Role Location:

Most workshops will take place at the Derry Hall, Church St Estate, London NW8 8HJ.

We would like the volunteer to assist us in the following aspects of work:

  • To carry out administrative duties such as ensuring all paperwork is completed correctly and signed by those women attending.

  • To communicate directly with those attending the workshop by sending out feedback questionnaires and follow-up emails in case of any delays.

  • To assist the facilitator in organising the workshops and preparing delivery materials and activities if needed.

  • Helping to promote the group locally to reach as many Feyli women as possible.

Skills, Attributes and Experiences Required:

No previous work experience is required, however, we are looking for a volunteer who:

  • Has a genuine interest in supporting small charities that empower women to rebuild their lives and gain confidence.

  • Has good English communication skills.

  • Can speak Kurdish.

  • Can work flexibly with enthusiasm and commitment.

  • It would be preferable if the volunteer is from Kuwait, principally for reasons of a shared culture, history and dialect with Feyli women.

Out of Pocket Expenses:

We cover lunch expenses in addition to travel expenses within London zones.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS):

This role does not require a DBS check.

What Do You Gain By Volunteering With Us?

  • You will gain work experience in the charity sector and improve your employability skills by being part of a highly motivated and professional team.

  • You will contribute to our mission of empowering women and changing their lives for the better.

  • You will have ongoing support and supervision by MEWSo staff, besides different learning and development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge (e.g. rotating to new roles within MEWSo, attending training workshops, representing the charity at networks and events).

  • You will also receive certificates of recognition and references to support your professional development.
